Our Story
Before founding Diatom, both Dr Chris Rose and Dr Alex Baker spent more than a decade working in aerospace and space research. With PhDs in engineering materials, microscopic analysis and high-performance component design, they have a deep understanding of the concepts that make Diatom special. But the story didn’t end when the first watch launched. Today, our founders remain closely connected to the space sector, consulting on material behaviour and spacecraft integration while continuing to publish research and collaborate with global teams.

Every rare material we use has a story. From the original source to the moment it enters our workshop, we require a clear chain of custody. Each stage is documented, ensuring transparency and accountability. Whether it is a meteorite slice or an aerospace-grade alloy, our materials carry a verified history.
Scientific Verification
True authenticity goes beyond documentation. Each material we use undergoes advanced testing with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. Using Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDAX), we examine microstructures and elemental compositions in extraordinary detail. These methods reveal the fingerprint of every material, confirming its rarity and origin beyond doubt.
Certification of Authenticity
Once verified, each Diatom watch is accompanied by a signed and stamped Certificate of Authenticity. This document is a testament to the science, history and craftsmanship that make your watch unique.
