The Diatom Blue Dot is a truly special thing. Not only is it the beating heart of our steadily-growing Earthrise Collection, it’s the piece that introduced the world to the wonder of space-flown watches. To date, our watches have all used a space-tested Swiss Ronda 3540.D movement which has been specifically selected for its robustness in extreme environments. However, after years of relentless searching and rigorous testing, we’ve successfully space-certified a self-winding movement that can travel to over 120,000 feet above the Earth without missing a beat. So, without further ado, we’re thrilled to announce the new automatic Blue Dot MkII Meteorite Dial!
Space certified
At the heart of the new Blue Dot MkII Meteorite Dial is the SL4802 automatic chronograph movement, which has been comprehensively tested for robustness and precision both on the ground and in the extremes of space. We’ve gone to the ends of the Earth, and beyond, to create an automatic watch that promises flawless performance no matter where your adventures take you. On top of that, the movement’s substantial 55-hour power reserve means that your Blue Dot MKII Meteorite Dial will keep time even when you’re not on the move.
Designed from the ground up
It’s not just the internals that have been upgraded though. The Blue Dot MKII Meteorite Dial introduces new features and subtle design flourishes (like the delicate terracing inside the sub-dials) that truly set it apart, all while retaining the authentic meteorite face of its predecessor. What’s more, the metallic ring containing material from the Apollo 11 command module now encircles a delicate XI emblem that pays homage to the historic lunar mission.
Engineered for space
It simply wouldn’t be a Diatom if it hadn’t been launched into space. And, much like any component designed to leave the Earth’s atmosphere, the Blue Dot MkII Meteorite Dial has been engineered to withstand the most extreme of conditions. The case, strap and clasp are crafted from surgical-grade 316L stainless steel, with a hard-wearing custom coating incorporating corrosion resistance and durability into a uniquely refined finish. Additionally, our flat sapphire crystal glass offers exceptional scratch resistance for a consistently clear and distortion-free viewing. Every one of the Blue Dot MkII Meteorite Dial’s components are designed to ensure lasting performance that will withstand the rigours of daily wear, as well as the occasional trip into space!
