Authenticity
In an industry where storytelling often outweighs substance, Diatom takes a different approach; one that's rooted in real engineering, scientific rigour and materials expertise shaped by years of space sector experience.
Diatom co-founders Dr. Chris Rose and Dr. Alex Baker both hold materials science PhDs and are experts in microscopy, spectroscopy and a range of other lab verification techniques. This enables them to study the composition of Diatom’s rare materials in extraordinary detail and authenticate them via their unique microstructural fingerprints.

The Diatom Standard of Authenticity
Each and every rare material we source must go through a stringent three-stage authentication process covering provenance, verification and certification before being cleared for use, ensuring that every timepiece we create meets the Diatom Standard of Authenticity.

Provenance confirmation
From the original source to the moment it enters our laboratory, we require a clear chain of custody for every rare material. Whether it is a meteorite slice or an aerospace-grade alloy, each transfer of ownership must be comprehensively documented to ensure transparency, accountability and a fully traceable history.

Scientific Verification
Each material we source undergoes advanced testing with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment to independently confirm its authenticity. Using Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDAX), we examine microstructures and elemental compositions in extraordinary detail to confirm a material's rarity and origin beyond doubt.

Official Certification
Only once a material has met every condition of the Diatom Standard of Authenticity can it be officially cleared for use in our watches. Each timepiece is accompanied by a signed and stamped certificate confirming the successful completion of this meticulous process, so you can wear your authenticated piece of Space Age history with confidence.
