Diatom Owners Club members embark on the trip of a lifetime

From astronauts and pilots to influencers and watch enthusiasts, the Diatom Owners Club is growing at a rapid pace – especially since the release of the new automatic Blue Dot MKII Meteorite Dial. Our valued club members get exclusive access to a multitude of watch and space-related benefits, the latest of which was the opportunity to include a personal picture or video on a real-life mission into space. We had an inkling that this was going to be a popular perk, but we never expected to get as many submissions as we did and from such a wide range of interesting people!

Prepping the spacecraft

With the pictures and videos tallied, it was time to start building the craft. It can reach a rather frosty -70°C in the near-vacuum of the upper stratosphere, so we set to work modifying a digital display to survive the freezing clutches of space. Once perfected, we mounted the screen to our bespoke carbon-fibre launch platform, loaded the submissions onto the flight computer and readied the craft for launch.

Up, up and away

The flight itself went off without a hitch – thanks to our incredible engineering team – and we watched in awe as the craft ascended through the clouds on its way into the unknown. At just over 120,000 feet, we remotely activated the screen via satellite uplink to display the Owners Club submissions against the blackness of space, the curvature of the Earth and the thin blue line of its atmosphere … a truly stunning sight!

What a ride

Thanks to everyone who participated in the launch; we hope you enjoyed seeing yourself journey into an environment where few have ever gone before. To those who missed out, check out the incredible footage here.
