British Watchmakers’ Day is fast approaching, and the hotly-anticipated event promises to be a highlight of the UK horology calendar. To celebrate the occasion, Diatom is introducing the brand-new Terra Verdant, a special-edition timepiece created exclusively for British Watchmakers' Day and limited to just 50 pieces worldwide.
The years of R&D leading up to the Terra have been a period of rebirth for Diatom, spurring us to reengineer every facet of our design, development and testing processes in pursuit of something extraordinary. This release marks the beginning of a bold new chapter in our story, one that embodies everything Diatom has stood for from the very beginning.

The Terra Verdant
Following in the footsteps of our Earthrise collection, the Terra Verdant incorporates a wealth of space heritage into its design. The watch’s pièce de résistance is a 4.5 billion year-old Gibeon meteorite dial, masterfully acid-etched to reveal its intricate Widmanstätten patterns and enhanced with a vibrant green finish. Offsetting the stunning meteorite face is a chapter ring crafted from a proprietary alloy that contains genuine mission-flown material recovered from the Apollo 11 Command Module.
Pushing beyond
We’ve learned an incredible amount while undertaking R&D for the Terra, and this knowledge has enabled us to develop a range of tools and processes that are helping to elevate Diatom watches to a whole new level. This includes everything from surface-enhancement techniques to produce a spectrum of unique dial shades all the way through to novel qualification procedures that allow for a much wider range of space-certified movements.

Swiss automatic movement
In fact, this fresh approach to testing is precisely what gave rise to the Terra incorporating Diatom’s first-ever Swiss automatic movement. Space-certifying the Sellita SW200 was the culmination of almost three years of intense development, innovation and perseverance, leveraging our founders’ combined 40 years of aerospace engineering and tribology experience, along with the tireless work of a dedicated team of spacecraft technicians.

British Watchmakers’ Day
The Terra has been made in collaboration with The Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers for British Watchmakers’ Day, taking place on 7th of March at London’s Lindley Hall. We’re incredibly proud to be a part of the thriving horology scene in the UK, and this exciting event promises to be an illuminating day that will offer enthusiasts a glimpse into the bright future of British watchmaking.

The next chapter
We’ve taken everything that makes the Earthrise collection so special and combined it with a plethora of new designs, processes and refinements to redefine the Diatom ethos from the ground up. While the Terra marks our first foray into automatic Swiss movements, it certainly won’t be the last. In reality, it’s the beginning of a brand new chapter in the Diatom story, one defined by the design, narrative and luxury that only a space-flown watch can offer.
Remember, the Terra will exclusively be available at the British Watchmakers’ Day event. There are only 50 available, so grab your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
